USA and Spain on a Collision Course: Potential World Cup Semifinal Showdown

The paths of the United States and Spain will not cross, at the earliest, until the World Cup semifinals. Team USA will play the first round in Manila (Philippines) against New Zealand, Greece and Jordan. If they finish in the top two, more than likely, they will face the best two in group D (Egypt, Mexico, Montenegro and Lithuania) in the second phase.

The path of Spain goes the other way and begins in Jakarta (Indonesia). In the first phase they will face the Ivory Coast, Brazil and Iran and in the second the curves begin. According to logic, one of the two places for the quarterfinals with Canada and France would be played (that group is completed by Latvia, without Porzingis, and Lebanon).
