Matteo Berrettini withdraws from the US Open after a bad fall on 6-4, 5-3 in favor of the French Rinderknech.
Berrettini collapsed to the ground trying to recover a ball. His US Open ended in the worst possible way, with an unnatural twist of his right ankle that prevented him from continuing the match against the Frenchman. He limped off the field to applause from the crowd.
