Tro Breizh Hikers Bring Excitement and Festivities to Small Towns in Ille-et-Vilaine

North of Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine), Gosné, 2,000 inhabitants, and Saint-Sulpice-la-Forêt, 1,500 inhabitants, are rather calm in August. Many residents have gone on vacation, but the population will suddenly increase for twenty-four hours. The Tro Breizh hikers left Dol-de-Bretagne on July 30, 2023 to reach Rennes, and will stop in these two towns on Thursday August 3 and Friday August 4, 2023.

“600 walkers to welcome all at once is a great first for us, confirms Annaïg Pincon, deputy mayor of Saint-Sulpice-la-Forêt. But it’s not that complicated because the organizers are experienced and very well organised. »

The party in the village

Same felt in Gosné, near Liffré. “The Tro Breizh approached us about six months ago. They needed a big place to sleep, showers, toilets and another space for meals,” explains Marie-Hélène Le Cuff, deputy mayor. The participants arrive on foot but are followed by trucks with their luggage, sleeping bags, tents and even part of the meals.

The two municipalities have therefore offered their sports hall, their village hall and have adapted a site for the installation of an ephemeral campsite. An organization validated each time with the firefighters so that the reception meets all the safety criteria.

“We also have fallback solutions if the weather does not allow campers to stay outside,” adds Annaïg Pincon. As for the volunteers, despite the holidays, the inhabitants present also answered the call. “We have seven municipal associations that have come together to create a small restaurant and a refreshment bar in the evening”, salute Marie-Hélène Le Cuff. From the festival committee to the football and badminton clubs, the Gosnéens are working hard to make this stage a party on Thursday August 3, 2023, from 7 p.m. The town hall has called on a local sea shanty group and fest-noz musicians.

Same in Saint-Sulpice, the next day, with the associative bar Le Guibra. “There will be all ages, lots of nationalities, it should be nice”, promises the chosen one.
