Tottenham Hotspur digs deep into their pockets and has Van de Ven inside | Football

Tottenham Hotspur completed the arrival of Micky van de Ven on Tuesday. The 22-year-old defender reportedly makes the switch from VfL Wolfsburg to North London for 50 million euros.

Van de Ven has signed a contract with ‘The Spurs’ until mid-2029. According to the generally well-established The Athletic in transferjournalist Fabrizio Romano is the transfer fee of 50 million euros including bonuses.

The eleven-time youth international impressed in the Bundesliga at Wolfsburg in the past two seasons. ‘Die Wölfe’ took Van de Ven in 2021 for an amount of 3.5 million euros from FC Volendam, at the time still coming out in the Kitchen Champion Division.

The transfer will bring the club from the fishing village a lot of money. Reportedly, FC Volendam has a resale percentage of 15 percent. That would mean that about 7 million euros may flow to the people of Volendam. For comparison: the Eredivisionist’s budget for the 2023/2024 season is 9.5 million euros.

Another Dutch defender in the Premier League

With the arrival of Van de Ven, the number of Dutch defenders at the top clubs in England continues to increase. Van de Ven will meet Nathan Aké (Manchester City), Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) and Sven Botman (Newcastle United) in the Premier League, among others.

Van de Ven is the fourth newcomer to the Spurs after the arrival of James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario and Manor Solomon. Last season, the two-time national champion was disappointingly eighth. As a result, the club is missing this year on the European battleground.

Tottenham will start the new season against Brentford on August 13. On Tuesday, the Londoners will first take part in the battle for the Joan Gamper Trophy, FC Barcelona’s annual season opener.
