Chris Bassitt was effective in six innings on the mound for the Blue Jays (68-56), who rebounded from five losses in seven games.

Elly De La Cruz had two hits for the Reds (64-60), including a triple that allowed her to score on the streak due to a defensive error. TJ Friedl homered and Christian Encarnacion-Strand had two of the local favorites’ six hits.

“I was running fast to get to third and when I saw the ball was in the middle of nowhere, I knew I had to run fast for home plate,” De La Cruz said through an interpreter. I was waiting to see if they would send [Matt] McLain to the plate. When I saw he was going, I knew I had to try my luck. »

Schneider stretched his arms at the expense of Brandon Williamson (4-3) with a recorded out in the fifth inning to give the Blue Jays a 4-3 lead. It was Schneider’s third long ball this season.

“I missed a few pitches before, but I could see the ball well,” explained Schneider, who was struck out in his first two at bats. On the second, I made a few mistakes. Third, I had a fastball, then a shift, and I didn’t miss it. »

The Reds placed runners at second and third bases with one out at ninth. Romano, however, struck out Henry Ramos and forced Stuart Fairchild to groundball for his 30th save of the year.

“The succession has been excellent,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said. It was a big Davis homer. We regained the momentum, but it was the next generation who knew how to decide. »

Bassitt (12-6) gave up three runs, including two earned, three hits and a walk. Williamson, meanwhile, allowed four runs, nine hits from the safety spot and a free pass in five and two-thirds innings.

Shortstop Bo Bichette returned to the Blue Jays lineup, hitting a productive base hit.

Bichette had been traded at AAA level to get back into shape after treating a right knee problem. His last game in the Majors dates back to July 31.

He still leads the American League in hits (145). Bichette also hit 17 homers and drove in 59 runs, which ranks second in every category for the Jays behind Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

To make room for Bichette in their lineup, the Blue Jays demoted infielder Paul DeJong.

On Sunday, Hyun-Jin Ryu (1-1) should be on the mound for the Jays. Hunter Greene (2-4) should be the go-to man for the Reds.
