The message was only leaked on Friday, on Saturday, after SC’s dress rehearsal for the DFB Cup next weekend, Freiburg coach Christian Streich confirmed the upcoming change, at least indirectly: top talent Noah Darvich will leave Breisgau in order to get the jersey of the to put on FC Barcelona.
“The youngsters have countless role models in financial terms and in everything,” explained Streich, adding: “When a 16-year-old sees what’s going on in football all the time, how is he supposed to keep a clear head?” Darvich made a name for himself throughout Germany at the U-17 European Championship: With two goals and four assists, the attacking player captained his team to the European Championship title (5:4 against France).

It was “a great pity for the football school and the people who invested so much in him,” Streich regretted. “Now we’ll see where the road goes. It’s his decision and that of the family, you just have to wish him the best of luck. I hope he made a good decision in the end.”
In the Freiburg pre-season, Darvich played in the pros’ first pre-season game against the Swiss club Grasshopper Club Zurich and even scored a goal in the overwhelming 6-1 win.
Afterwards Streich emphasized that he had “time and patience” himself and at the same time expressed the hope that the same would apply to all Freiburg talents – certainly a clear appeal to the ambitious youngster. This was planned for the coming season in the third division team.
But Darvich apparently has other plans. He still has a contract in Freiburg, so he would definitely bring in a fee. It is questionable whether the driver in Catalonia is planned for the first team. His future is much more likely – at least for the time being – in the world-famous youth academy “La Masia”.
