The Unraveling of Johnny Manziel: From Heisman Trophy Winner to NFL Struggles and Personal Turmoil

The race of Johnny Manziel in the NFL it was not what a Heisman Trophy winner would have anticipated. Following a successful NCAA career with Texas A&M in 2012 and 2013, the Tyler, Texas native was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the first round of the 2014 Draft but left football after two seasons.

In the Netflix documentary Untold: Johnny Football, the former quarterback revealed that at the end of the 2015 NFL season he began using oxycodone and cocaine daily. Furthermore, according to ESPNHe assured that in 2016 he bought a weapon and made an attempt on his life after being cut by the Browns.

“I had planned to do everything I wanted to do at that point in my life, spend as much money as I could, and then my plan was to take my own life,” he said. Manziel. “I wanted to get as bad as humanly possible as far as it made sense, and that made it seem like an excuse and a way out for me. […] “To this day I don’t know what happened, but the gun jammed.”

The documentary will be released next Tuesday, August 8 on Netflix.

The Texas A&M graduate played in 14 NFL games, eight starts, and went 2-6. In all, he had 1,675 yards with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions on completion of 57 percent of his throws.

Manziel’s versatility was innovative as he was adept at running and had 259 yards with a touchdown on 46 carries. 12 of his rushing drives meant another set of downs for the Browns.

His first start came in Week 15 of his rookie season in a 30-0 shutout against the Cincinnati Bengals. The QB completed 10 of 18 throws for 80 yards, had two interceptions and was sacked three times. He ran the ball five times and had 13 yards.
