Turkish Basketball Federation President Hidayet Türkoğlu and National Team Head Coach Ergin Ataman stated that he would make a statement on the subject after the tournament. Saying that Ergin Ataman called him to the National Team even though he knew he was injured, Larkin said, “The truth is; The national team invited me to come to the camp and join the team, even though they knew that I was in a bad physical condition and that it would be risky for me to play in the qualifying matches. At that time in the USA, I was trying to recover my body and prepare for the new season after an injury-filled season. The national team nevertheless invited me to come to the camp to have an MRI of my knees and get an accurate diagnosis. I flew from Miami to Istanbul and had an MRI. The results were negative and the national team doctor told me that I was in bad shape and that if I pushed myself I would risk serious damage to my knee in the short and long term. I was instructed not to load on my knees and not work lower body. Then I started treatment with different drugs to help my recovery and a week later I was asked to have another MRI. I did exactly what was asked of me and when I had the second MRI, the bone had healed, but it was not at a level to play in the matches and it was still risky.”
