The Falling Popularity and Uncertain Future of James Harden in the NBA

In recent weeks, the popularity ratings by James Harden is in free fall. Given recent events, the Barbu is not really coveted and will have to cross his fingers to find a franchise that wants him next season…

If he wants to leave Philadelphia at all costs, he will nevertheless have to find a franchise ready to welcome him. James Harden’s reputation isn’t exactly ideal these days and recent events haven’t helped that. By publicly attacking Daryl Morey in China, he definitively declared war on his franchise but did not only make friends. This release was indeed rather poorly received in the NBA.

Kevin Garnett was the first to show his amazement and it looks like Harden didn’t earn many points from him. If his first wish was to join the Clippers, it would seem that the negotiations are now at a standstill, so much so that his future is largely in question. At almost 34 years old, the former Rockets seems simply undesirable…

James Harden destroyed… but mentioned elsewhere in the East

Five years after his coronation as MVP, James Harden seems far from his best years and his setbacks do not really help him to convince a franchise to enlist him. When you list the teams in the league, it’s hard to imagine which one would be ready to recruit him. This is also the observation recently made by the influential journalist Bill Simmons, who nevertheless imagines a potential base for him:

Here’s something funny: there is NO trading scenario for Harden. Chicago is not going to trade DeRozan for him. The Clippers won’t give up on him. The younger teams don’t want him. Title contenders can’t take that risk. That leaves only one candidate… There’s only one franchise dumb enough to sign James Harden: the Wizards.

For Simmons, the only possible destination for Harden would therefore be… Washington. A hypothesis that he justifies by an alleged lack of common sense from the front office of DC For the moment, however, no discussion has taken place between the franchise of the capital and Philadelphia, and setting up a trade could take time given the requirements of the 76ers. Obviously, this has nothing to displease Wizards fans anyway:

Please, no. We don’t want him.

After everything that’s happened recently, James Harden doesn’t seem to be favored by the whole league. Few franchises would be willing to discuss a trade and according to Bill Simmons, to do so would be foolish. In this context, he considers that Washington looks like the only viable lead…
