The Failed Transfer Saga of Johan Bakayoko: PSG’s Search for a Right Winger

Last January, PSG were looking for a right winger. Several names then came out in the media, such as that of Johan Bakayoko. The capital club would have gone so far as to offer 15M€ for the Belgian from PSV Eindhoven. A transfer that ultimately did not materialize and Bakayoko also returned to this abortive departure.

Following the departure of Pablo Sarabiathe PSG wanted to replace him during the winter transfer window. Hakim Ziyech, Rayan Cherki, MalcomJohan Bakayoko… The club from the capital considered different profiles, but none finally joined the workforce of Christophe Galtier. The PSG had yet visibly gone on the offensive to Bakayoko. 15M€ would have been proposed to the PSV Eindhoven. I just don’t.

“I’m not really disappointed”

In remarks given to Voetbal International, Johan Bakayoko returned to his abortive departure last January. The player of PSV Eindhoven then admits: “I am not really disappointed. For me, everything is quite simple: if you have talent, quality and you show it, the big clubs will come naturally”.

“PSV didn’t want to let me go”

“The temptation can be great if a club like PSG are interested, but my focus is on PSV to grow here. If I succeed, these kind of clubs will always follow you. And PSV was very clear: they didn’t want to let me go,” continued Bakayoko.
