The Diving Ducks Wr. Neustadt Secure Thrilling Comeback Victory and Advance to Final

The Diving Ducks Wr. Neustadt were on the verge of being eliminated against the Dornbirn Indians on Saturday. After the Lower Austrians had clearly lost the first game of the day, they were 6-0 down in the second game, but fought back and finally won 10-9 after an extra inning. Koki Yonezawa put the Ducks ahead in the first inning of Sunday’s deciding fifth semifinal match.

The hosts then expanded on this, after the fourth inning they were already 8:0 ahead. The only 15-year-old Ducks pitcher Klaus Scheicher showed a flawless performance in his Bundesliga debut until then, only in the fifth inning did he have to allow two runs from Vorarlberg. The guests even came up to 5:8, but the Wr. Neustädter promptly responded with a run. The hosts didn’t allow much on the defensive and finally made it into the final with a 9:6 win. The winner of the regular season thus also managed to take revenge for the defeat against Dornbirn in last year’s semi-final series.

In the final there will be a duel with the Vienna Metrostars on the next two weekends. The record champions made up for a 2-0 deficit against record champions Wanderers and thus ensured the new edition of the 2021 final series.
