Tennis: Gasquet and Garcia eliminated in the quarter-finals of their tournament in the United States

He did not miss much to Richard Gasquet. In the lead after winning the first set (6-4), the French failed to defeat Sebastian Korda (33rd in the world), this Thursday, in the quarter-finals of the hard court tournament of Winston Salem, in North Carolina. The French veteran (37), who was playing the 125th quarter-final of his long career, nevertheless had the opportunity to bend the match with a match point, when he led 7 points to 6 in the tie-break of the third set before losing the next three points.

Defeated in three sets (4-6, 6-1, 7-6 [9-7]), the Frenchman is therefore not far from reaching the last four of a tournament for the first time since his victory last January in Auckland. This is all the more frustrating that after his victory over Gasquet, Korda withdrew from his semi-final due to an ankle injury.

Now, Richard Gasquet must focus on the US Open (August 27-September 10). The Biterrois will compete against the Hungarian Fabian Marozsan (83rd).

No semi-final for Caroline Garcia either

Same sentence for the 7th in the ATP ranking. In the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 in Cleveland, Caroline Garcia was dryly beaten in two sets (6-4, 6-1) by Lin Zhu on Thursday. Without a solution for 1h27, conceding her face-off five times, the Frenchwoman did not really exist in this match easily won by the Chinese (83rd in the world).

Eliminated therefore, Caroline Garcia must prepare for the US Open which begins on Monday. Semi-finalist, last year in New York, she will face in the first round a player from the qualifications then potentially in the second round Diane Parry, the 73rd Frenchwoman in the world.
