The Marlins club was founded in 1997, and today, it is among the most outstanding clubs in Spanish baseball, with 6 Copa del Rey titles and 14 in the Liga de División de Honor.
The 2023 Copa del Rey has been played this year in Córdoba by the top four teams in the League, Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz (first), Astros Valencia (second), San Inazio Bilbao (third) and Sant Boi (fourth).
The people of Tenerife defeated Sant Boi (0-17) in the semifinals, while Astros Valencia, in a much more balanced match, beat San Inazio Bilbao (12-7).
The Marlins and Astros offered an exciting final to the public that took place in the town of Benameji.
From the outset, the Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz came out very determined, achieving an advantage on the scoreboard of (0-5), but the Valencian team was not far behind, and stood up trying to keep their opponent from leaving on the scoreboard.
The people of Tenerife couldn’t keep up with their initial rhythm, and suddenly began to give way, which the Astros took advantage of by being more accurate in their actions in the game.
The pitcher Delvin Capellán did a great job, however he had to be relieved in the fifth inning by Vicente Colsante and it was there in said inning, where the nerves took over the pitcher of the Tenerife team. Astros de Valencia managed to score twice in a row by walk (7-3). Some races that gave him wings to close the gap.
From here the Marlins went in tow. In the sixth inning, Yancarlo Franco with a homer managed to boost Richard Montiel’s career and close the gap (9-13). In this way, the team was back in the game. Despite the pitcher changes (Julio Torrealba and Aarón León) by the Marlins, the team could not prevent the Astros’ lead from expanding even more and ending the match with an adverse score (18-10).
