Summer Olympics of Solidarity: A Day of Sports and Sharing

Solidarity Olympics to light up the summer

In the Hérault, the “Holiday Forgotten Day” is an event that has been repeated every summer for fifteen years, organized by Secours Populaire. As its name suggests, this initiative aims to offer people, especially children, who do not have the chance to go on vacation, the opportunity to live an unforgettable day, punctuated by sports activities, inspiring encounters and moments of sharing.

Meeting with a champion and warm sharing

This year, the event took place this Thursday, August 24 on the magnificent Aresquiers beach in Frontignanunder the theme of the “Olympiads of Solidarity”. The presence of Gaëlle Nayo-Ketchanke, a renowned Olympic champion, honored this day. The Hérault Federation of Secours Populaire explains that the objective is to promote physical and moral well-being by highlighting values such as surpassing oneself, teamwork, respect for others and cooperation.

Throughout the morning, the 600 participants, children and parents who did not have the chance to go on vacation, had the opportunity to discover and participate in various sports activities, including martial arts, weightlifting, bowling and tree climbing. Among the activities offered were swimming, “Friends of the World” activities, origami, throwing sports (molky, Breton pucks, frisbee), badminton and even the creation of a collective fresco. Many other workshops enhanced this long day, which ended with a convivial snack and distribution of gifts for kids. With each edition, these moments remain engraved in the memory of Anne-Marie Petit, the departmental secretary of the Secours populaire.
