The strong winds caused by the passage of a line of downpours and thunderstorms caused the interruption of a basketball game on the Charles Terry court in Ponce on Sunday.
Videos published through social networks by the journalist and meteorologist of “Las Noticias” (TeleOnce), Deborah Martorell, show the exact moment in which the gusts lift the tiles that make up the little board.
“Everyone out, everyone out,” one of those present is heard saying.
According to reports, the events occurred in the middle of a game played by the Puerto Rico Little Lads & Lassies Basketball, where minors participated.
At this time, no injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.
Earlier, the National Weather Service (NWS) in San Juan issued a special statement for strong thunderstorms that affected the southeastern area of Puerto Rico.
The agency warned that weather conditions will deteriorate further today as a vigorous tropical wave, dubbed Invest 90L, approaches the region.
The NWS forecast that for this Sunday the intense heat will continue in the morning and afternoon, but these conditions will begin to change at night when the expected rain begins due to the tropical wave that is located to the southeast of the Island.
The Invest 90L system, which is monitored by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, has a 70 percent probability of formation within 48 hours.
However, regardless of its development, a period of rain is expected from Sunday afternoon to Wednesday. These periods of heavy rain could result in flooding, river flooding, and landslides.
The strong breeze that the system will cause will also result in dangerous maritime conditions, so it is recommended to be away from the coasts.
“Residents and visitors should continue to monitor forecast updates for possible hazard risks issued by the National Hurricane Center and the National Weather Service,” the NWS said.
At the peak of the hurricane season, the agency remains alert to various systems that are in the Caribbean area. In addition to Invest 90L, a new tropical storm arose over the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, however, it does not represent a danger to the area.
