Stabbed fan and attack on Sparta expedition. The Air Force in Zagreb pays attention to safety

Zagreb (from our correspondent) – In view of the recent tragedy in Athens, where a Greek fan was stabbed during a clash between AEK and Dinamo supporters, will Kuchta et al., sponsors and fans in Zagreb have special protection?

“We are not trying to look at the double match with Dinamo as a continuation of the Croatian team’s double match with AEK. The protection of the A-team, fans or guests who travel with the club is ensured in a standard way,” said Sparta’s communications director Ondřej Kasík.

However, the memento of the stabbed AEK fan and the memories of the 15-year-old violent attack on members of the Sparta team the day before the match in Zagreb, during which many injuries occurred, are still alive. Will the summer supporters, of whom around 150 will arrive in Croatia, receive strong warnings and advice to minimize the risk of being attacked?

“We try to take care of our fans every time we go out. Let’s say that systemically there is not that much difference between the fans’ trip to Zagreb and the recent one to Copenhagen. You see, in Copenhagen, which was not talked about in terms of security, there was a conflict in the end. The fans had to go back to the Czech Republic on buses that had damaged windows. In cooperation with the police, Dinamo itself and the security forces, we will try to protect them as much as possible in Croatia,” said Kasík.

During the short flight to Zagreb on Tuesday, the club’s guests and representatives of the sponsors were warned by a security expert about the event 15 years ago and were advised to walk around the city in groups, not to show their Czech affiliation and to stay at a hotel late in the evening.

The Czech champion will arrive in the Croatian capital on Wednesday evening. The pre-match training will take place in Prague, at the Maksimir Stadium the players will only see the pitch. The opening duel of the European League play-off with Dinamo Zagreb will start on Thursday at 8 p.m.
