DThe reform of the Admiral Women’s Bundesliga from summer 2024 is met with skepticism among the St. Pölten women. Club boss Schmaus fears overload from the new schedule.

Carina Wenniner was also on the road a lot as a player. Now she’s touring the country in a new role – as the new manager of the Admiral Women’s Bundesliga. “I still have a lot to learn,” says the ex-international, who sees herself as a “link between clubs and ÖFB”. Wenninger is aware that the game plan for the coming season will be her first big “challenge”.

Schedule with Premier League touches

Because from the summer of 2024 there will also be a play-off system for the ladies. After the basic round, the top six will fight for the title in a championship round, the last four for relegation. Makes a whopping ten games more in the St. Pöltner case. So instead of the previous 18 league matches, there will be 28. “Difficult to accommodate alongside the international dates,” SKN Women’s President Wilfried Schmaus points out the need for weekday rounds. “Quite apart from the stress: Up to 60 games, including Champions League and international matches, can wait for some of our footballers. Not the most sensible thing from a health point of view.” Which is why the Wolves were the only club to vote against the league reform.

“A new mode? Gladly, but it should be doable! The local women’s football doesn’t just exist as full professionals.” Also in the Future League, where young players play across the board and weekday rounds are hardly possible. Schmaus meaningful: “But you will certainly have thought about it…”
