Spanish badminton continues to shine before the entire continent in the individual competition of the U17 European Championship that takes place in Lithuania. The national athletes have returned to the tracks this Wednesday to complete the first round, confirming their great moment with a record of six wins and three losses. These victories, added to the three opening day winsmake there already nine national athletes who have managed to advance in the competition.
It is worth noting the good moment of Spanish badminton in the men’s singles event, where the three national athletes have won and entered the round of 16. First of all, last year’s European U15 medalist Yaidel Gil began his participation by going back over the Finn Axel Gras (18-21, 21-11 and 23-21). In addition, the Aragonese Raúl Bergua and Alejandro Gállego have achieved two serious victories against the Romanian George Alexandru Mocan (21-18 and 21-10) and the Italian Davide Izzo (21-18 and 21-16).
Things get complicated for the three, who will have to give their maximum level to get into the round of 16: Gil will face the French Lenny Bonniere, Bergua the Slovenian Nikita Peshekhonov and Gállego, the Danish Salomon Adam Thomasen.
This Wednesday has also been a good day for the women’s doubles of Macarena Fernández and Victoria Gutiérrez, for the men’s doubles of Yaidel Gil – Mario Rodríguez and Yulien Gil – Ismael Oballe. Fernández and Gutiérrez have authoritatively defeated the Italians Sofia Protto and Margherita Tognetti (21-8 and 24-22), while Yaidel Gil and Rodríguez have given an account of the Portuguese Hugo Campos and Francisco Jones (21-9 and 21-15 ).
