CREMONA – There is expectation in Cremona for An Chang – Rim, 29 years old, South Korean judo champion, who will arrive in Italy for the first time on Wednesday 23 August, called by the Lombardy Regional Committee for a series of technical appointments. The first Italian tatami he will tread will be that of Cremona toadThursday 24 August, from 19:00 (training open but reserved for Kodokan competitive athletes only).
Born and raised in Japan, in Kyoto, An is part of the Korean minority who have resided in Japan since before the Second World War, and who still maintain their nationality. For South Korea, Chang-Rim won the judo world title in Baku in 2018, in the -73 kg category. Considered an absolute talent for physical and technical skills, An won the Olympic bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Games (held in 2021), a success after which he decided to retire from competitive activity, albeit still young. In the first match he had unfortunately beaten the Italian Fabio Basiledefending champion of Rio 2016.
