Two new metals for the Xàtiva Badminton Club. The club athlete Selenia Pla won two gold medals in the third test of the National Parabadminton Circuit, held last weekend in Toledo. The player from Setabense proclaimed herself winner of the SL4 women’s singles and SL4 mixed doubles events in the third round of the national competition in the town of Castilla-La Mancha.
In the SL4 individual, Selenia reached the final, where she once again met the Andalusian Cristina Sánchez de Lechina, a player she had already faced on other occasions. But this time, the Badminton athlete Xàtiva knew keep calm and deploy the right game plan to take the first set 21-12. In the second, the Andalusian athlete counteracted the game of Xàtiva, winning 11-21 and equalizing the match, which thus reached the third and decisive set. In this set, Selenia recovered her game and returned to the path marked out in the first set to close the match with another 21-12, the same result as in the first game, after a match that lasted until 48 minutes. Selenia thus managed to win the gold medal in the women’s individual SL4.
On Saturday afternoon it was the turn of the dispute of the test of the mixed doubles SL4, in which the athlete from Setabé teamed up with the CB Athlos de Ourense player, Manuel García. The couple reached the final, where Selenia met Cristina Sánchez de Lechina again. The Andalusian couple formed by Selenia’s rival in the women’s singles and by Iván Segura faced Selenia and Manuel in a very even match in which the Setabense and her playing partner they managed to prevail after 35 minutes of the match in two sets by 21-16 and 21-17. In this way, the CB Xàtiva player once again proclaimed herself champion and hung another gold, the second of the day.
Selenia also planned to compete in the inclusive doubles category, but her partner’s indisposition for this match prevented the Setabense from playing in this category in the third test of the National Parabadminton Circuit in Toledo.
The same Castilian-La Mancha locality of Toledo hosted one more summer the Parabadminton Summer Camp, which took place between July 25 and 30 and was attended by a large representation of athletes from the national parabadminton modality, including the player from Club Badminton Xàtiva Selenia Pla. The Setabense exercised together with her classmates under the orders of the different members of the parabadminton staff of the Spanish Badminton Federation (FESBA), in various work sessions that addressed both technical and tactical aspects. With this campus and with the National Circuit test, which marked an intense sports week in Toledo, Selenia Pla continues to accumulate training and experience to continue growing as an athlete, as highlighted by CB Xàtiva.
Besides, From this Wednesday, August 2, to Sunday, August 6, the 4 Nations Parabadminton International 2023 tournament will be held in the English town of Sheffield, a sports event that will bring together a total of 222 athletes of 37 different nationalities. Among them will be the athlete of Club Badminton Xàtiva and of German origin, Thomas Wandschneiederwho will be present in the WH1 men’s singles draw and in the doubles of the same category, forming a pair with his usual partner in the competitions, Rick Cornell Hellmann.
