Schremser Beers Finish 2nd Bundesliga Season with a Respectable Third Place

On the holiday of the Assumption of Mary, the championship season in the 2nd Bundesliga center ended for the Schremser Beers. The ASAK Attnang-Puchheim Athletics were guests.

SCHREMS. After securing third place in the table, the Schremser Beers were still concerned with extending a series of games without defeat at their home Beers Field in Eugenia, which went back to 2019. In high summer temperatures and in front of more than 150 spectators, Beers manager Hannes Filler made his comeback after a long injury break. In the first game he sent Alex Dailey onto the mound as a pitcher in order to keep the strong Attnang-Puchheim team in check.

Unfortunately, the start was not very promising, with hits, walks and wild pitches, the guests quickly gained a 4-0 lead, which they were able to extend up to the third inning. In the first third of the game, the Schremser offensive found no recipe against the very strong throwing young talent of the Athletics. You could produce batches of baserunners, but you couldn’t capitalize on them in the form of runs. Even two thrower changes on the part of the Upper Austrians did not bring any significant improvement, the Schremser bats remained quiet.

Only shortly before the end of the game did the fans cheer, Thomas Wurz shot a ball over the outfield fence for a 2-run home run. In the end, however, this was only a result correction, the first game of the day deservedly went to the men from the Hausruckviertel. Final score: 7 -11.

Spiel #2

In the second game that followed, Daniel Spazier was to ensure a positive end to the season as a pitcher for the Beers. Again, the Waldviertel immediately fell behind, but this time they were able to fight back and equalize. In the middle of the game, however, a small preliminary decision: Uncertainties in the field game of Schremser coupled with good hitting and aggressive base running by the Athletics made the gap grow to 3 points. The Beers Offense was unable to assert itself against the very strong pitching of the opposing pitchers – two import players from North America.

However, the highlight of the day for the numerous fans was Alex Dailey, who in his last at bat for the Beers hit a much-celebrated 3-run home run over the fence – his first in the championship – and thus at least ensured a conciliatory conclusion. Final score: 9-12.

Third place in the table

There were two very interesting and exciting games in sweaty temperatures and in front of a crowd of spectators that is probably unparalleled in Baseball Austria. The Beers boys put up a great fight, but the Attnang Athletics proved too strong that day and deservedly won both games.

The Beers ended the premiere season in the 2nd Bundesliga Mitte in a respectable third place in the table with a record of ten wins from 19 games – a very nice sporting success. “We would like to thank our fantastic fans, who made all home game dates an extraordinary event. Thanks also to the teams for playing games fairly, as well as to the referees from the Highlanders and the Red Devils. A huge thank you also to our volunteers in and around the canteen,” says the Beers.

New youth team

The first games for a newly formed youth team are planned for August 26th. Information about this can be found on the website and on social media.
