Austria has had a new world champion in sport shooting since Sunday. Alexander Schmirl won gold in the three-position match with the small bore rifle at the World Championships in Baku (AZE). The 33-year-old from Lower Austria prevailed in the title fights with a total of 462.6 points and 3.4 points ahead of the Czech Petr Nymbursky.
Bronze went to Indian Akhil Sheoran, 12.6 points behind Schmirl. Schmirl, the first individual world champion from Austria since Stefan Raser in Munich in 2010, also bought a ticket for next year’s Summer Olympics in Paris with his success.
