Schalke 04 not only lost the game in Braunschweig, but also suffered some injuries. Now the S04 announced two diagnoses.

Update, Monday (August 21), 4:51 p.m.: There is now an update on the injuries at FC Schalke 04. On Monday afternoon, S04 reported two long absences.

Schalke diagnoses are certain: Two S04 professionals are out “until further notice”.

Accordingly, Kenan Karaman and Dominick Drexler will not be available “until further notice”. Karaman suffered an unspecified muscle injury in his calf, Drexler an adductor muscle injury.

After all: Nilklas Tauer has a swollen jaw, but is probably not seriously injured. At least he can train.

Schalke hospital getting bigger: The S04 already has eight injured players

First report, Sunday (20 August), 4:58 p.m.: A pitch-black Sunday for FC Schalke 04: S04 lost 1-0 to Eintracht Braunschweig. To make matters worse, the Royal Blues had four injured players who had to be substituted or, like Dominick Drexler, left the pitch at the end of the game.

Even before kick-off it was clear that FC Schalke 04 would have to do without four players. Leo Greiml (torn cruciate ligament), Blendri Idrizi (muscular problems), Cedric Brunner (impact on the instep) and Sebastian Polter (laceration) were absent.

During the S04 game against Eintracht Braunschweig, the Schalke hospital even increased to eight injured players. However, it is not yet clear whether there were more serious injuries.

Schalke professional Niklas Tauer gets a kick in the face in Braunschweig

Niklas Tauer was badly hit in the face on his S04 debut. Although the midfielder has been in the Royal Blues squad since January, the 22-year-old only made his debut in Braunschweig – as a right-back in place of Cedric Brunner.

The full-back had to take a few fouls early on, and one scene in the sixth minute was particularly bitter. Opponent Krauße caught Schalke falling with the studs in his face. Niklas Tauer continued to play with a thick plaster and a large bump on his jaw. At half-time, however, S04 coach Thomas Reis had to replace the loanee from Mainz 05.

Particularly bitter: Niklas Tauer made a bad pass that led to 0:1. Because of this scene, he only got a grade of 4.5 in the S04 individual review by RUHR24 against Braunschweig.

It remains to be seen whether Niklas Tauer only suffered a “big bump” or whether his jaw was even affected. There was no direct trip to the hospital, the midfielder sat on the bench in the second half.

Schalke attacker Kenan Karaman after being substituted with a bandaged lower leg

Schalke coach Thomas Reis had to react once during the first half. Kenan Karaman obviously injured his right leg, he suddenly fell to the ground and had to be substituted. Soichiro Kozuki came on for him.

Kenan Karaman sat on the bench for the second half with a bandage around his right lower leg.

Incidentally, Paul Seguin, who was bandaged on his left thigh and knee, was three seats down. A possible injury was initially no reason for him to be substituted at half-time.

Schalke player Bryan Lasme has been replaced and Dominick Drexler has to leave the field

Then came the next shock in the second half: Bryan Lasme had to be treated in the 57th minute after a duel with Brian Behrendt. The Frenchman initially tried to continue, but it was no longer possible. Thomas Reis, who had made four substitutions before, brought on Yusuf Kabadayi for the winger.

And if that wasn’t more than enough, Dominick Drexler, who came on as a substitute in the 46th minute, suddenly grabbed his thigh after a sprint in the 82nd minute. He gritted his teeth at first, but then left the pitch in the 90th minute. Loud WAZ-It could be a torn muscle fiber, as the player himself told the newspaper.

Schalke 04 now have eight injuries: Next game on Friday evening

Leo Greiml, Blendi Idrizi, Cedric Brunner, Sebastian Polter, Niklas Tauer, Kenan Karaman, Bryan Lasme and Dominick Drexler – Schalke 04 suffered eight injured players immediately after the final whistle against Eintracht Braunschweig.

Things are clear with Leo Greiml, he will be out for a few more months. But the rest? Schalke coach Thomas Reis would probably like to welcome a few pros back to training before the next game on Friday evening (August 25, 6:30 p.m.) against Holstein Kiel.
