Derek Carr made his debut as quarterback for the New Orleans Saints and did so with a win (27-24) against the Kansas City Chiefs, current NFL champions. The one who did not debut was Jimmy Garoppolo, who stayed on the Raiders’ bench, in the first game of the preseason.

Carr lived up to the hype his arrival generated. In the only offensive he had in his power, the quarterback The 30-year-old wasted no time in guiding the Saints to their first score of the game.

In front of the fans that gathered at the Superdome, Carr only had six passes to place the ovoid in the end zone. The 70-yard drive he moved on his only drive of the game ended with an exact delivery to receiver Keith Kirkwood.

On the other side of the field, Patrick Mahomes, winner of two Super Bowl rings, was tagged out 15 yards out in the first quarter. Shane Buechele, his position partner, shined with two touchdown passes. Blaine Gabbert added one more, but the Chiefs let the game go on Blake Grupe’s field goal on the final play of the game.

In Las Vegas, the Raiders started their preparation journey with a massive victory (37-7) against the San Francisco 49ers. With Garoppolo on the bench, those led by Josh McDaniels took advantage of the lost balls and the ineffectiveness of their opponents in attack, to come out ahead in front of an audience that was left wanting to see their new player in action quarterback.
