Rubén Sánchez, Elimination junior world champion

MADRID, 28 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Rubén Sánchez was proclaimed junior world champion this morning in the Elimination test of the World Track Championship of the category, which has been held in Cali (Colombia), thus achieving the first gold for Spain youth on track.

Rubén Sánchez made history this morning in his first year in the category and first participation in a World Cup, winning his first gold medal, thus becoming the first Spanish cyclist in history to be proclaimed junior world champion in a track event.

This historic milestone came this morning on the fifth and last day of competition of the Junior Track World Championship that takes place at the Cali Velodrome. A victory that Rubén Sánchez built from the start of the test, recovering from a fall in that initial section. But far from being a drag on the future of the race, the young Spanish cyclist was armed with motivation to be the fastest.

The rider of the Spanish team was overcoming the elimination without too many problems, exhibiting great control over the test, until he was already on the podium together with the Italian Davide Stella and the Ukrainian Matvey Ushakov. At that point, Stella relented, leaving Sanchez and Ushakov to battle it out for the gold.

The Ukrainian was the first to start, but the cyclist from Alcalá de Henares was able to catch him easily to immediately overtake him and make history by conquering that first rainbow for Spanish cycling in a Junior Track World Championship.

In addition, the brothers Mario and Héctor Álvarez also participated in a test in Madison in which they achieved a good sixth place after finishing with 8 points. In the CRI Kilometer, Sandro Abadía got 25th place with a time of 1:03.865 and Hugo Sánchez, 29th after setting a time of 1:04.579.
