Roberto Mancini Resigns as Head Coach of Italian National Team Amidst Job Offer Rumors

On Sunday, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announced the resignation of Roberto Mancini as head coach of the Italian national team.

In his “Instagram” account, the coach confirmed that it was a “personal” decision, but the Italian mass media mentioned a job offer in Saudi Arabia.

Spalletti left Napoli after winning the team’s first Italian title in 33 years, saying he needed time off. At the time, he also added that coaching the national team “would be attractive” to him.

Meanwhile, Conte, who coached Italy between 2014 and 2016, has not entered into a new job since leaving Hotspur at the end of March.

Mancini won the 2020 European Championship with Italy, but failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. In 61 games under his leadership, the team won 39 and lost nine.

The FIGC says that “in view of the important matches in the qualification for the European Championship 2024”, the new coach will be announced “in the coming days”.

In September 2024, Italy will meet North Macedonia and Ukraine in the qualification for the European Championship.

Mancini’s contract was until the 2026 World Cup. He took the helm of the Italian national team in 2018.
