Roberto Mancini Leaves the Italian National Team

Florence

Shocking news came from the Italian national team. Roberto Mancini has just left his position as coach of Gli Azzurri.

“Mancini has resigned from the position of coach of the national team. The FIGC will evaluate the best options for the Azzurri,” said an official statement from the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).

This decision was issued by the FIGC after they received Mancini’s resignation letter, Saturday (12/8/2023) yesterday. Mancini finishes his contract sooner than he should in 2026.

This is said to be a consequence of Mancini’s failure to lead Italy to qualify for the 2022 World Cup and only finish third in the 2023 and 2021 UEFA Nations League.

Even though Mancini had great success when he won Euro 2020 with Italy by beating England in the final and had a record of 37 matches unbeaten, beating his predecessor Vittorio Pozzo.

Mancini has worked for the Italian national team since May 2018. The 58-year-old coach has 37 wins, 15 draws and nine defeats from 61 matches with Italy.

Given that the Italian national team will carry out Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Ukraine next month, the FIGC will soon appoint a new coach in the next few days.

Luciano Spalletti, who is currently unemployed after leaving Napoli, is the strongest candidate.
