üAbout the “kiss scandal” at the World Cup and the shadow over the domestic Bundesliga
Luis Rubiales has done women’s football a disservice. Emotion or not: Unsolicited brushing off doesn’t look good on anyone. Especially not an association president. A rethink is necessary – and has long since started. A few years ago, Rubiales would have gotten away with a flimsy excuse after smacking the lips of World Cup captain Jennifer Hermoso. It’s different today. Not only NÖFV President Hans Gartner makes it clear: “That must not happen.” But it is. And unfortunately, the Rubiales debate is glossing over the highlights set at this Women’s World Cup in Australia. Even at the start of the season in the local women’s Bundesliga, which wants to start next year with a new mode and the first steps towards licensing.
Masters St. Pölten, Neulengbach & Co. need an appropriate stage for this. And women’s football in 2023 must not let a vain macho take it away from them.
