Remembering Horst Schütz: A Tribute to a Judo Legend in Bavaria

Published in Association News

Our much valued sports comrade Horst Schütz from TV Garmisch, holder of the 5th Dan, died on August 7th at the age of 83.

He has done a lot for judo in Bavaria and not just at club level. Horst Schütz was a trainer and department head of the judo department for decades and only resigned in 2020 for health reasons.

He started with judo in 1957 and established Garmisch as a judo great in Bavaria. In 1988, Horst successfully passed the 5th Dan exam. For many years, he was also available with his expertise to the Examination Department, both as an active examiner and as the head of examinations for the Upper Bavaria-South area.

Horst Schütz was also active as a referee in the BJV for many years. In 1970 he acquired his referee license, in 1980 he became a state referee in the Bavarian Judo Association and in 1982 he passed the DJB-B referee exam.

As the Bavarian Judo Association, we would like to express our condolences to his family. We will always remember him.
