Remco Evenepoel puts an end to rumors and stays with Soudal-Quick Step

Remco Evenepoel put an end to the rumors sending him insistently to Ineos-Grenadiers by announcing this Friday on his social networks that he will respect his contract valid until 2026 with Soudal-Quick Step.

“I have a contract until the end of 2026 and I will respect it. A contract is a contract. You can’t just walk away saying, “I wish you the best and goodbye.” That one is not to be done. The world of cycling is not the world of football, ”said the Belgian nugget on Thursday evening interviewed by the Lanterne Rouge podcast.

Rumors of transfer to Ineos

In recent weeks, rumors of a departure to the British formation Ineos, with more resources than the Belgian team, have been more and more insistent. The runner’s father, Patrick Evenepoel, had himself indicated “not to be sure” that his son would “still be with Quick Step next year”. On Eurosport where he officiates as a consultant, the former winner of the Tour Alberto Contador had assured him that “it’s an open secret: Remco will sign with Ineos”.

Evenepoel, online world champion in 2022 and time trial champion this year, should compete in his first Tour de France next year with the aim of competing with the double winners of the Grande Boucle Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard. The Belgian, 23, will also participate in the Tour of Spain this year (August 26-September 27) which he won last year and where he will notably be opposed to the Dane Vingegaard, winner of the last two Tours de France.
