Targeted by an NBA investigation, referee Eric Lewis (52) has announced his retirement, effective immediately. The League is therefore ending its investigation into his activity on social networks.
As a reminder, the American journalist Marc Stein assured last May that he had flushed out a fake X account (ex-Twitter), now deleted, in the name of Blair Cuttliff (@CuttliffBlair). He suspected Eric Lewis of being the possessor, in order to anonymously defend his decisions as well as those of his colleagues, on social networks. ESPN and The Athletic then continued the work, before the NBA itself investigated whether Lewis broke NBA rules by talking about officiating in an unauthorized manner.
In 19 years of refereeing in the NBA, Eric Lewis has refereed nearly 1,200 matches, including 82 playoffs and 6 NBA Finals, in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
