Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois Faces Lengthy Absence with Knee Injury

Real Madrid received a hard blow this morning. Thibaut Courtois, as the club itself has announced in a medical report, will miss several months of competition after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during today’s session. The goalkeeper will undergo surgery in the coming days and will remain out for at least nine months.

Real Madrid currently has only one other goalkeeper in its first team, the Ukrainian Lunin, who has refused to leave the club this summer in a decision that could now seem fundamental. Below him would only be the Castilla goalkeepers, Lucas Cañizares and Mario de Luis, and none of them have made their debut with the first team. The club will now have to decide if, given the Belgian’s misfortune, it goes to the market to reinforce the goal, since his return will not take place, at least, until May.
