Prominent Senegalese Judo Figure, Saïdou Nourou Touré, Passes Away at 87

Dakar, Aug 18 (APS) – Senegalese judoka master Saïdou Nourou Touré, first vice-president of the Senegalese Federation of Judo and Associated Disciplines, died Thursday afternoon, in Montreal, at the age of 87, learned APS from family sources.

Considered the founding father of judo in Senegal, master Touré was also the highest-ranking judoka in the country, with an eighth dan obtained on September 20, 2013.

President of the Grades Commission at the Senegalese Federation of Judo and Associated Disciplines, he obtained his first dan on July 25, 1965, before obtaining his second dan two years later, on July 17, 1967.

He continued his ascent by becoming third dan on October 9, 1968, then fourth dan on November 15, 1973.

But it took him eight years to reach the rank of fifth dan.

Master Saïdou Nourou Touré obtained his sixth dan black belt on December 22, 1986 and his seventh dan black belt on August 23, 1994.
