Prisca Awiti of Guanajuato Wins Bronze at Judo Grand Prix in Zagreb

The judoka representing the state of Guanajuato, Prisca Awiti, continues to reap successes, first it was her gold medal in the recent Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador and now a bronze in the Grand Prix of the specialty held in Zagreb, Croatia.

It seemed that the podium was escaping Awiti Alcaraz after a painful fall in his third duel, however, he knew how to mentally recover to return to the mat and claim the last of the available medals. In just one minute and 59 seconds, the Guanajuatense gave an account of the Turkish Minel Akdeniz, thus registering another third place in this series of events, remembering that in May she had been third in Austria.

In other bouts that Prisca, an Olympian in Tokyo 2020, held without problems, she easily defeated the Serbian Tea Tinto and the Filipino Kiyomi Watanabe, to immediately lose in the quarterfinals against the Austrian Lubjana Piovesana. It was then that, in the repechage round, Awiti resumed her winning ways and made her way to the honor roll after beating hostess Iva Oberan.

The gold metal within the -63 kilograms division went to the experienced British Lucy Renshall, the silver was obtained by the South Korean Jisu Kim, while the bronze was shared by Piovesana and the “guanajua”.

After her latest results, Prisca Awiti is located in the thirteenth place in the Olympic ranking, holding firm in the cycle that will lead to Paris 2024, while in the international list she occupies the nineteenth place, so for now the dream of a second appearance in a summer joust is latent and seems within reach.
