PREMIER LEAGUE. Everton goalkeeper causes penalty with (unintentional) punch, Chelsea misses league start with 1 to 6

Penalties and discussions, they go hand in hand in football. But in Aston Villa’s match against Everton, there was really no discussion possible this time after the ball hit the spot. Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford hit Ollie Watkins full in the face with his left fist. Unconsciously, yes, but the referee didn’t hesitate for seconds to whistle a penalty kick.

Douglas Luiz did not fail from eleven meters and doubled the score halfway through the first half. Six minutes earlier, John McGinn had given Aston Villa the lead.

The game eventually turned into a solid 4-0 defeat for Everton, where Amadou Onana was between the lines for 90 minutes. Leon Bailey (ex-Genk) and Jhon Duran went even deeper into the wound in the second half. At Aston Villa, Youri Tielemans came in just after the hour, Leander Dendoncker was not in the selection.

For Everton it is the second league defeat in a row. The Toffees barely managed to save themselves in the Premier League last season and seem to have to fight against relegation this season as well. Aston Villa counts 3 out of 6.

Chelsea can’t win again

Chelsea are still looking for their first win of the new season. On the opening day, the Blues played a draw against Liverpool, on Sunday evening they lost 3-1 at West Ham. In a fascinating first half, Nayef Aguerd had opened the score for the Hammers early on: after a corner from Ward-Prowse, the Moroccan defender headed the 1-0 against the nets.

Just before half an hour, Chelsea, where Roméo Lavia was not yet in the selection, leveled again after Chukwuemeka scored his first goal for the Londoners. Before the break, the away team had the chance to take a lead, but Aréola saved Enzo Fernandez’s eleven-meter mark.

That miss broke Chelsea in the second half, because after losing the ball, Antonio West Ham took the lead nicely. After that, goal scorer Aguerd threatened to become the anti-hero after a second yellow card after three quarters of the game, but the Blues could not exploit the manmeer situation.

In the absolute final phase it was even the Hammers who made it 3-1. After a penalty violation by substitute Moises Caicedo – with 133 million the most expensive transfer in the Premier League – the ball still hit the spot for the home team. Lucas Paqueta did not fail and gave West Ham a first league victory. Chelsea starts the new season dramatically with a 1 in 6.
