Playground operation Awimbalieje in Denderleeuw started half a day later on Wednesday after a fuss on social media about the name of a child that was written incorrectly on a name sticker. It read Conard, which is like the French word for asshole.
Playground activities Awimbalieje announced on its Facebook page on Wednesday morning that the activities would only start in the afternoon instead of in the morning. The reason: a mom had expressed her displeasure on social media because her son had come home the day before with a name sticker on which Conard was written. That name resembles the French word connard, which means asshole.
“You also realize that this is not his name,” writes the mother of the child called Conner. “You just sat on his face laughing today. Luckily he doesn’t understand it himself.”
Innocent mistake
The message provoked a lot of reactions on social media, but many people especially support the animators. Nevertheless, Awimbalieje decided not to resume playground activities until Wednesday from 12.30 pm.
Alderman of Youth Sofie Renders (CD&V) says that it was indeed an innocent mistake. “Due to the impact of the event on the animators, they decided to remain closed in the morning,” she says.

Also last month, Awimbalieje had a hard time when a parent started swearing at one of the animators after an insurance document was not immediately in order. Then the animators of Awimbalieje called for more respect towards them.
