Pitcher Justin Verlander’s Controversial Move Fuels MLB Trade Deadline Drama

Pitcher Justin Verlander once again caused a stir at the end of the transfer in the North American professional baseball league MLB. The 40-year-old top pitcher returned from the New York Mets, where he signed a two-year, $86.7 million contract earlier in the season, to the Houston Astros, for whom he had played from 2017 to 2022.

The Mets, who started the season with great ambitions after huge investments, have so far fallen far short of expectations and are obviously planning a rebuild. In exchange for Verlander, they received top-class talent. Before the “trade deadline” on Wednesday, they had already handed over their second star pitcher, Max Scherzer, to the Texas Rangers – he and Verlander are now fighting each other in a division for the play-off entry.

Curious in both cases: The Mets take over large parts of the salaries of the players who have given up. Verlander and Scherzer would each have conceded around 58 million dollars by the end of the contract in 2024, with the New York franchise taking over 35 million in both cases.
