Goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi tore a cruciate ligament in the Champions League group game against Celtic Glasgow (3-1) about ten months ago, and now his comeback is getting closer. On Tuesday, RB Leipzig’s number one will take part in team training again for the first time. It will be a while before he can stand between the posts again, but this step is a milestone for the 33-year-old Hungarian international, who is “only” vice-captain this season behind new captain Willi Orban becomes.

Summer newcomer Christoph Baumgartner will also be part of the public session. The midfielder, who was kicked off by TSG Hoffenheim, missed important parts of the pre-season due to a thigh problem, but can now hope to join coach Marco Rose’s matchday squad for the Bundesliga opener on Saturday (3:30 p.m., LIVE! on kicker) at Bayer 04 Leverkusen stand. Like Gulacsi, Baumgartner shouldn’t participate in all the exercises on Tuesday, but should be gradually introduced.

Kampl back in the squad against Leverkusen?

In addition to Baumgartner, Kevin Kampl is also aiming for a place in the squad in Leverkusen. The 32-year-old veteran missed the DFL Supercup at FC Bayern (3-0) on Saturday for a short time after thigh problems occurred during the warm-up. A detailed examination ruled out a structural injury or a torn muscle fiber, and so Kampl will complete an individual session on Tuesday as planned. On Wednesday he is to be integrated back into team training.

New central defender El Chadaille Bitshiabu, who has torn a medial ligament, and midfielder Amadou Haidara, who has been suffering from a muscle injury in his left calf since the friendly against UD Las Palmas, are still out of the options for Rose. Both will be out for several more weeks.
