Pablo Abin, Clara Azurmendi, and Luis Enrique Pealver Eliminated in First Round of Badminton World Cups

Pablo Abin and Clara Azurmendi have been eliminated in the first round of the Badminton World Cupswhich are held in Copenhagen. Abin, the first Spaniard to enter the fray, lost in the men’s draw against the Singaporean Kean Loh, in two sets by 21-12 and 21-9. In his two previous matches he was also beaten in two sets.

Loh was always ahead on the scoreboard in both games with some clarity. Abin hardly had any options and was fired after 28 minutes.

For his part, Azurmendi ceded in two partials to Taiwanese Wen Chi Hsu, by 21-10 and 23-2 in 38 minutes of a game in which the Spanish went from less to more, but could not prolong the clash and force a third set by wasting their options.

Azurmendi leaves alone in the women’s draw Carolina Marn, sixth favourite, who has been exempt from playing the first round. Play in the second against the winner of the match between the Swiss Jenjira Stadelmann and the American Iris Wang.

Luis Enrique Pealver has also been eliminated in the first round after losing against the Chinese Yu Qi Shi, eighth favourite. The Spaniard gave way in two sets, by 23-21 and 21-8 in 44 minutes after a closely contested match in which he was close to his rival, but was beaten in the second set and was unable to prolong the clash and force a third set.
