Two golf carts used by the organizers of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest to transport the athletes from the warm-up field to the call room collided. The accident was fortuitous, but inevitable and the consequences weigh heavily on the athletes who were on board.
All eight athletes participating in the first semifinal of the 200m, including the American 100m champion Noah Lyles, were on board one of the two vehicles. To have the worst, among the athletes, the Jamaican Andrew Hudson, wounded in the right eye, from which a small fragment of glass was removed. Hudson raced like this with severe eye discomfort, then didn’t qualify and appealed.
