OM dominate but concede a draw at Metz in Ligue 1

The game: 2-2

Only three days after elimination in the 3rd qualifying round for the Champions League, OM were hooked in Metz (2-2) Friday evening during the 2nd day of Ligue 1. Dominating at the start of the match, the Marseillais were overthrown in five minutes by brave Messins, reduced to ten (59th) after Ababacar Lô’s dangerous tackle on Iliman Ndiaye. But, more incisive, Marcelino’s players snatched the draw at the end of the game (2-2).

Like Tuesday evening, Marseille supporters wondered why fate was beating on their training. The Olympians were denied a first goal on a slight offside by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (45th + 1), served by Geoffrey Kondogbia, then another by Valentin Rongier (52nd), canceled by video arbitration after a foul by Ismaila Sarr.

In parallel with this bad luck, Marcelino’s players harvested in the wake of Ismaïla Sarr, stirring but too messy in the last gesture (2nd, 7th, 37th, 44th), unlike Emran Soglo, who had shown the way to his partners (14th). On a strike from Cheikh Sabaly blocked by Rongier (65th), then a big hand fault by Pau Lopez (71st), on a powerful volley from Georges Mikautadze, the Messins, reduced to ten (59th), overthrew their opponent. Then, the people of Lorraine showed solidarity to repel the repeated attacks from the Marseillais.

At the end of the match, the Portuguese striker Vitinha finally beat the Metz goalkeeper Alexandre Oukidja, who did not cover his first post enough (82nd). In additional time, the Marseillais broke their teeth, chaining the centers on the heads of the garnet defenders, more concentrated than in the first period.

The young left-hander Emran Soglo became, this Friday evening in Metz, the second youngest scorer for OM in Ligue 1 (18 years and 52 days), behind Samir Nasri (17 years and 199 days).

The player: Emran Soglo, convincing first

Spanish coach Marcelino had concocted a surprise in his starting lineup: Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi was replaced on his left side by young Emran Soglo, convincing in pre-season. From the first minutes, the Frenchman was active and endowed with a big personality. And, on a cross from Ismaïla Sarr, slightly deflected by Aubameyang, the native of Créteil, trained at Chelsea, opened his goal counter in Ligue 1, for his first match (14th). Stirring, Emran Soglo helped his side Renan Lodi well defensively and defended well inside the game. He disappeared over the minutes, but his personality deserves to be reviewed.
