Olivier Philippaerts has had a special weekend in London. First he took gold in the team competition Global Champions League thanks to two clear innings. On Sunday a great 2nd place followed in the individual Global Champions Trophy. The most important competition in the world for several years. “It was memorable,” says a delighted Philippaerts.

With the team of Swede Peder Fredricson on the highest podium, a day later only Jessica Springsteen – Bruce’s daughter, who took a lot of risks in the jump-off – was ahead of her.

With gold and silver, Olivier Philippaerts has had a great weekend at the prestigious competitions in London. He thanks his top horses Le Blue Diamond van ‘t Ruytershof and H&M Miro for that.

“It was certainly memorable,” the Belgian responds. “I’ve felt for a while that H&M Miro was in top form. That’s why I’ve given him some rest in recent weeks. I wanted to test him once in London with a view to the European Championships.”

A (just not a) golden move from our compatriot. “The physically strongest and freshest horses generally do well. And we have a choice of different top horses that can handle the highest level. Then it is possible to rotate often.”

A prestigious win? I feel it is possible with H&M Miro.

So Philippaerts is confidently heading to the European Championships in Milan at the end of this month. Although he would have liked to win a prestigious competition. “That should happen urgently,” he laughs.

“But I can only do my best. I feel that it is possible with H&M Miro. The puzzle pieces just have to fall into the right place. The victory was certainly there in London, but Springsteen took a lot of risks and it paid off.”

And at the European Championships in Italy, the rider has an extra asset: no pressure on his shoulders to qualify for the Olympic Games.

“We’ve known that since last year,” the Belgian shares. “So we can calmly drive our race.” And hope for Belgian success.
