Newcomer Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu Signs One-Year Contract with Bundesliga’s Tigers Tübingen

The newcomer was absent from the start of training on Thursday because he is traveling with the Nigerian national team. But the one-year contract with the Tigers Tübingen has been signed: Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu, “Kao” for short, comes to the Bundesliga promoted team from the University of Memphis. The 23-year-old is 6’2″ and also played for the Southwestern Assemblies of God University and the University of Texas at Arlington in college. In his first college season in 2018/2019, he had to pause for a long time due to a serious foot injury.

“We are gaining a player who has enormous physical and athletic requirements,” Tigers manager Jascha Maus was quoted as saying in the Bundesliga club’s press release. “We will certainly have to give him the necessary development time as well. However, we see great potential in him.”

Coach Daniel Jansson is looking forward to “a real athlete under the basket”. Akobundu-Ehiogu is “still a very raw player”, but will give the team enormous physique. “He will strengthen our defense, get rebounds and help shape a fast transition game. From my conversation with him, he is very humble and a good guy. We need someone like that for our team.”

The squad of the Tigers Tübingen: Atu Kivimäki, Jhivvan Jackson, Zaccheuy Darko-Kelly, Timo Lahnmüller, Gianni Otto, Jimmy Boeheim, Erol Ersek Kriss Helmanis, Bakary Dibba, Mateo Seric, Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu, Daniel Keppeler.
