National Women’s Compound Bow Team Qualifies for Grand Final in 2023 World Cup Series

The national women’s compound bow team -non-Olympic discipline-, made up of Ana Hernández Jeon, Andrea Becerra Arizaga and Dafne Quintero García, qualified for the grand final of the fourth stage of the 2023 World Cup series, which is held in Paris France.

After obtaining third place in the qualifying round, the world runners-up beat Iceland 234-214 in the first knockout phase, the Netherlands 234-227 in the quarterfinals, and the always-favorite South Korea in the semifinals with an agonizing 234-233.

Thanks to these victories, the Central American champions also won their place in the duel for the gold medal, where they will face the Indian team next Saturday, the nation to which they lost the final in the recently concluded Berlin 2023 World Championship.

With their qualification to the final, Hernández Jeon, Becerra Arizaga and Quintero García secured their fifth team medal of 2023, after those won in the first two World Cups, in Antalya (bronze) and Shanghai (gold), the gold in San Salvador 2023 and silver in Berlin 2023.

Also during the day on Wednesday, the eight selected recurve bow players entered into action, who competed and satisfactorily passed the qualifying phase in individual, team and mixed team events.

The Olympic medalist and current world runner-up, Alejandra Valencia, and the Pan-American multi-medalist Matías Grande, were the best-placed Mexicans, since the Sonoran woman was classified as the second best in her category, and the junior finished in 13th place and won her first knockout clash.

In addition, the Central American monarchs took second place in the mixed teams, and advanced directly to the second elimination round, as did the women’s team, made up of Valencia herself, Aída Román Arroyo and Ángela Ruiz Rosales.

They also got their ticket to the next individual phase: Román Arroyo, Ruiz Rosales and Jesús Flores Alanís, as well as the men’s team, made up of Grande Kalionchiz, Caleb Urbina Zapata and Carlos Rojas López.
