Municipality awarded funds for 49 sports projects in Valdivia

During this week, after holding a new council session, the Illustrious Municipality of Valdivia granted financing for new projects through the “Fondo para el Desarrollo Comunal Deportivo 2023” (Fondecode), an instance to which various community organizations applied to develop activities with children, youth and adults.

For this opportunity, 49 initiatives were favored, which raised proposals within the lines of equipment, clothing and implements, activities for associations and leagues, competitions and events for clubs, workshops and/or schools and improvement of sports spaces. The total amount for this new call was $75,948,347.

Projects include the Viejos Crack Valdivia Association Football Championship, the Jugadas Maestras Chess Circuit of the Valdivia Chess Club, the participation of rowers from the Arturo Prat Club in the National Rowing Championship to be held in Puerto Montt, as well as also, the management of basketball sports wheelchairs and sports equipment for Paralympic athletics of the Valdivia Adapted Social and Sports Club.

The head of the Department of Sports and Municipal Recreation, Sergio Echeverría, indicated that “there was a high call for truly innovative projects that managed to capture the essence of sport together with work with the community. They were analyzed one by one in order to reach the list of favored for this new call. We have several sports disciplines with good initiatives to work on such as football, chess, swimming, judo, to name just a few.”

Also approved was the improvement of the bathrooms of the Casa Blanca Sports Club, the handball workshop of the Kimeltu Handball Club, the participation in the South American Athletics Championship of the Master Valdivia Athletics Club, the assistance to the North National Championship of the Río Cruces Judo Club, and the workshop Starting and Ending the Oncol Trail Club Day.

«It will be a semester marked by various championships, workshops and activities that include all citizens, we are also supporting the improvement of sports spaces and the purchase of implementation. The Fondecode contributes to finance innovative projects that are designed and thought by Valdivian institutions, and this helps community participation, self-management and collaboration networks are generated, “said Echeverría.
