Modifications to the Firefighters Law are a fact

The plenary session of the National Assembly approved in the third debate Project No. 1047, which adds and modifies articles and numerals of Law No. 10 of March 16, 2010, which creates and regulates the operation of the Meritorious Fire Department of the Republic of Panama, which will allow the use of 20% of the one-year interest of the trust for advances in the institution.

This project was presented on August 11, 2023, by the Minister of Government, Roger Tejada Bryden, before the Government, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Commission.

The proposed modifications are intended to achieve important advances in the institution, such as the maintenance and acquisition of equipment, purchases of uniforms, training, and infrastructure improvements.

Minister Tejada highlighted that with the approval of Project No. 1047 it will be possible to use the trust funds efficiently, based on the interest generated, as well as to do justice to a historical debt of more than 15 years with the promotions that today have materialized.

The minister and president of the Board of Firefighters assured that with the unanimous vote, the deputies recognize the effort of each one of the firefighters for their work, so difficult and complex, in favor of the citizenry.

For his part, Ernesto De León Echevers, general director in charge of the BCBRP, considered that a great step is being taken to do justice to the firefighters and it will also be possible to acquire the necessary equipment and supplies to continue providing the service to the community.

“The approved proposal will allow administrative processes to be streamlined, for example, it will allow the general director to delegate functions and an executing court is also created,” explained the fire chief.

Among the equipment to be purchased are 18 ambulances, 30 modules of intervention kits, security uniforms, for daily and work use, paying for insurance, food, fuel, among others.
