Mathilde Gros after her elimination in individual speed: “I’m disappointed because I wanted to go to the final four”

“What feeling prevails after your elimination in the quarter-finals of the individual speed at the Glasgow Worlds on Tuesday?
I’m disappointed because I wanted to go to the final square. Unfortunately, that’s how it is. We’ll have to watch the videos and see what went wrong. But we’ll leave, I’m not dead. For me, that was the biggest goal of the year. I had a good round of 16 (final), unfortunately in the quarter, it was the tactical side that sinned.

The French women’s sprint seemed a little behind during these Worlds…
Last year, it was at home, it galvanizes. When you see the English at home, whether in the sprint or the endurance, they are good. Rather than staying on cloud nine after (the Worlds in) Saint-Quentin, because it was at home, now it’s the others who will be on cloud nine and us, we’ll have to work hard. It also allows us to remember that we are not invincible. And that it is not because we have a France jersey that we will walk. Sometimes it’s up and down: sometimes you win, sometimes you learn. And there, thanks to these Worlds, we learn. It’s up to us, athletes and staff, to stick together. And that’s not why we will arrive at the Games with a lump in our stomachs compared to the others.

Do you already have an explanation for this disappointment?
I had small physical and health problems just before (the Worlds). There were technical errors, and also pressure because it was the first World Championship that I was favorite. And the level also increases: among women, none crushes the tournament, it is very dense. »
