Marina Maljkovic leaves Fenerbahçe, defending European champion

Holder of the Euroleague title, Fenerbahçe finds itself looking for a coach. The Turkish club announced Thursday the departure of Marina Maljkovic, in post since April 2022 on the banks of the Bosphorus. “Marina (daughter of coach Bozidar Maljkovic, European champion in 1993 with Limoges) had a contract for 2023-2024 and had participated in recruitment and preparation for the season. But, on August 21 (Monday), she informed the club that she wanted to resign from her position, without justifiable reason. His contract was therefore terminated, ”explains Fenerbahçe on its site.

Serbia coach, quarter-finalist of the Euro in June, Maljkovic had won her first Euroleague title with the “Fener”, after a one-way final against Mersin (99-60), led by the American superstar Breanna Stewart, elected MVP with 35 points including 26 in the first half. The Turkish formation also had Emma Meesseman, the Belgian interior MVP of the Euro, and the American point guard Courtney Vandersloot in its ranks.

Fenerbahçe will begin defending their Euroleague title in Group A alongside Schio, Valencia and Asvel, back in the most prestigious European Cup after winning the Eurocup last season.
