Manuel Benson’s Contract Extension and Kompany’s Recruitment Strategy at Burnley

He will miss Friday’s big Premier League kick-off against Manchester City through an injury suffered earlier this summer, but Manuel Benson has two more reasons to be happy. First because his physical problems are almost behind him and he is about to resume training with the group. Then, because he will soon sign a new contract.

Recruited last summer from Antwerp by Vincent Kompany, the 26-year-old winger is rewarded with his great first season at Burnley (14 goals, 5 assists) with an extension until June 2027 and a salary increase. Small additional gift from Kompany, just to mark his confidence even more: the Belgian will play with the number 10 on his back (instead of 17). The signature of this contract is expected this week.

At the same time, the Clarets continue their transfer window with a new arrival: that of the former teammate of … Benson in Genk: Sander Berge. The Norwegian midfielder arrives from Sheffield United.
