Manchester City and Barça have already entered the final stretch of the negotiation for Joao Cancelo. The English club is already clear about the footballer’s determination to play for Barça and everything indicates that the transfer will close this week. The Blaugrana club is trying to fight for an affordable purchase option, while City wants it to be for a minimum of 45 million euros.
Barça is going to make an effort for Cancelo to please Xavi, who had asked for a quality right-back to compete in Europe. Cancelo was ruled out for many weeks due to the high price of the operation, but everything was reopened last Thursday when his agent, Jorge Mendes, promised to agree on an acceptable operation for Barça.
The Blaugrana club will assume Cancelo’s tab, which is lowered so that there are no problems with the salary limit and there will be a loan fee that could go by objectives. From there, Barça is working towards the future and wants a reasonable price on the purchase option. If Cancelo works, the club will try to sign him permanently as long as the price does not skyrocket.
For Barça, the ceiling would be around 25 million euros, but City will not accept less than 45 million. And that position is going to be hard and difficult to change since in Manchester they consider that the player can be revalued without problems at Barça and will be an important asset in 2024.
This part of the negotiation should not pose a final stumbling block as the two clubs expect to be able to reach an agreement within days. Today there is a meeting with Mendes in which everything could be unlocked and it seems that the Portuguese will end up wearing blaugrana.
